Some good prices today flying Lufthansa and Swiss from Spain (Madrid & Barcelona) to South Africa from £1,118 in Business and £2,081 in First. This makes a nice change to having to fly from Nordic countries!
The Facts
What: Lufthansa & Swiss limited time offers flying First or Business class between Spain (Madrid, Barcelona) and multiple destinations, my top pick being South Africa (Johannesburg, Cape Town).
Offer: Special fares for 2 adults travelling together only (does not work for solo travel). Both the Business and First fares are good value on decent First and Business class products. They are towards the lower end of the range you will find these fares, but they do crop up quite often. The sale runs to other destinations, but the prices for Asia are not as good as the £1,500 First Class fares a few weeks ago.
Availability: Travel between 18 Dec ’19 and 30 Nov 20. Minimum stay 6 days, maximum 3 months with no stopovers. You may need to play around with dates to get them to price up – I found availability mostly in June at the best prices.

The How
You will need to position out of Madrid or Barcelona. Lots of cheap Economy flights from Europe – why not have a city stay before heading on to SA?
You can book these fares direct with SWISS. The Business Class booking page is here and the First Class page is here. It shows where there is offer availability. Make sure that when the flights come up, they are around €2,500pp in First or €1,350pp in Business.
However, this does not reliably show Lufthansa operated flights. If you want to fly, for example, SWISS out and Lufthansa back, search here and make sure you have “Lufthansa Group” selected under the Airline.
It is also worth trying with an online travel agent such as Expedia, who may offer more availability.
Maximum Extravagance, Minimum Cost
Sample itineraries are below, as I said, you do need to play about with the routes a bit.
Mix up airlines
For a wider experience, why not mix up the airlines you fly outbound versus inbound? You can then compare SWISS and Lufthansa First Class!
Give yourself enough time on the ground
As I mentioned in my post on the ultimate First Class, the ground experience from SWISS (Zurich) and Frankfurt (Lufthansa) is up there amongst the best First Class experiences in the world. So give yourself a lengthy connection to max out on these!
