A great First Class fare on Expedia today flying Lufthansa First Class to Shanghai from Milan for £1,908 / €2.208. Lufthansa is rated the second-best First Class in the world by Skytrax (2019) and this fare will get you into a Lufthansa First Class Lounge and potentially the First Class Terminal at Frankfurt, which comes complete with Limousine service to the plane!

Sample itinerary departing 8 Feb 2020 returning 15 Feb 2020. Paying £1 extra for the routing through Frankfurt and 5 hours to experience Lufthansa’s flagship first class ground service!

The Facts

What: Lufthansa special First Class fare between Italy and Far East destinations, the best deal being £1,908 to Shanghai in China.

Offer: £1,908 is very good value for an 11 hour flight in Lufthansa First Class. This fare is valid for singe passengers as well. For comparison, exactly the same itinerary originating from London is over £6,000 *faints*. Originating from Frankfurt is over £5,000. The First Class segment between Frankfurt and Shanghai is on an Airbus A340, which is arguably not their best First Class cabin, but all Lufthansa First cabins off a good product.

Availability: Available on flights booked at least 30 days in advance, through to 31 August 2020. Minimum trip duration is 6 days and maximum is 3 months. No stopovers, but unlimited transfers, are allowed. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Book By: 3 November 2019.

The How

This is a flight departing from Milan, so you will need to position there first. Tickets from London are available from £26 return with Ryanair. The fare is NOT valid on the Lufthansa website (unless you fancy spending twice the amount!) but you can book it on Expedia in £ here or in € here.

Maximum Extravagance, Minimum Cost

My top tip for maximising your trip on this route is to get into the First Class Terminal at Frankfurt.

There are just 8 seats in the Lufthansa First Class (image courtesy of Lufthansa)

Pick an outbound routing through Frankfurt with a decent amount of connection time

The route will connect either at Munich or Frankfurt. Although Munich also has Lufthansa First Class lounges, Frankfurt is the flagship and offers a better ground service. Give yourself plenty of connection time at Frankfurt, my sample itinerary above gives 5 hours, but you can go for more or less if you like (but it must be less than 24 hours)

Leave the Terminal and enter back through the First Class Terminal

As a minimum, you will get access into an ultra-luxe First Class lounge in Frankfurt, but if you have given yourself enough time, then you can go through the First Class Terminal, which is a whole separate self-sufficient Terminal. Depending on where your flight from Milan lands at the airport you may get picked up in a car (Mercedes or Porsche) [updated 15 Nov – if so you will get dropped off at Terminal 1 and would need to walk over to the First Class Terminal].

The benefits of the Terminal (over and above the lounge are as follows)

  • A personal assistant to check you in and get you through dedicated immigration and security lanes.
  • You are guaranteed a limousine service direct to the plane! Your personal assistant will come fetch you when it is time to board. If you are in the other lounges, it depends on the distance to the plane as to whether you will get this service or not.
